St George Illawarra Dragons prop Jack de Belin knows there is nothing quite like playing on ANZAC Day against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Friday.

The Cootamundra Bulldogs junior confesses that he always appreciates the opportunity to play in the marquee fixture and that listening to the ‘Last Post’ is a humbling experience.

De Belin has also praised teammate Trent Merrin on reaching his 100th first-grade game milestone with the Red V.

“It’s one of the biggest games of the year for us and one we look forward to every year,” said de Belin.

“We obviously didn’t get the result last year, but it’s always a great game to be a part of and hopefully this week we’ll get the results.

“It’s an incredible feeling. Personally, standing on the field hearing the Last Post just gives you goose bumps, it’s a really touching moment to stand with the Soldiers who have served our country and to play on such a special occasion is an honour.

“The Roosters will be fired up for sure, they probably haven’t started the season as they would have liked.

“They’re a great team and they’re well-rounded all across the park so it will definitely be a challenge for us this week.

“It’s a big occasion for Trent, a hundred games for the club is such a great achievement and I know he’s incredibly proud to wear the Red V jersey and we’re all really proud of him too.

“Hopefully we have a good hit out there and get a win for him.

“I’ve had a few injuries and suspensions early on that haven’t really given me the best run in form, but it’s always a good experience to throw your name in to play rep, so who knows what might happen.”
