St George Illawarra Dragons prop Jack Stockwell is ready to seize his chance to impress following his permanent promotion to the first-grade squad.
The Picton junior is a graduate of the Dragons National Youth Competition but spent last season predominantly amongst the ranks of the Illawarra Cutters in the NSW Cup.
Rein: Nothing Is Set In Stone
Stockwell, 20, made his first-grade debut for the Red V in round 11 last season against the South Sydney Rabbitohs and played three games in total.
The prop had a banner year all round with his efforts across all grade earning him representative selection to the New South Wales Residents squad, New South Wales Under 20’s State of Origin team and ultimately the Young Kangaroos.
“It’s been enjoyable so far at training and I’m pushing myself to have a big season next year,” said Stockwell.
“The off-season is key to putting some weight on as well as getting as fit as I can to try and grab a spot.
“I need to work on areas of my game that need to be improved and the boys will help me do that.
“We’ve come together to work on some stuff as well as a team – it’s all about consistency.
“It was a goal of mine to step-up and play a first-grade game last year as well as make the Junior Kangaroos and I achieved both amongst other things.
“I need to show people now that I can mix it with the best of them and just work my hardest.”
