The St George Illawarra Dragons NSW Wheelchair Rugby League team take on the Newcastle Knights at the Sports Hub, University of Wollongong on Saturday.
The NSWWRL competition has seen a growth in participation over the last three years and has captured the attention of the Australian Rugby League Commission and various other NRL clubs.
“The Dragons were one club that have been quick to jump on board with our competition,” said NSWWRL Chairman Joseph Chidiac.
“Our supporters will have the opportunity to see what they are supporting and we are confident they will love our sport.
“Our sport allows people with a disability to actually play rugby league.
“We identify ourselves as being part of the rugby league family, and when our players put on those jerseys supplied to us by our supporting clubs, they really do get that feeling of involvement.
“Our relationship with the clubs and with the ARLC is so important and cherished.
“The strength of our sport is that it is inclusive of all people - anyone can play it.
“Our player pool comprises of able-bodied athletes, people with disabilities and amputees.
“We are always trying to get anyone to have a go, because we know they will love it.”
The NRL clubs supporting the 2012 NSW Wheelchair Rugby League competition are the St George Illawarra Dragons, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Newcastle Knights, Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Parramatta Eels, Penrith Panthers and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
