Morris Named Player Of The Year

St George Illawarra Dragons winger Brett Morris was rewarded for an exceptional season by winning the Club’s ‘Player of the Year’ Medal at the annual end of season Presentation night on Friday.

The Australia international, who played 23 games for the Red-and-Whites and scored 14 tries, was also the popular choice amongst Red V Members, taking out the Red V Members ‘Player of the Year’.

Retiring utility Dean Young, as selected by the St George ‘Immortals’ in consultation with the Club’s Coaching Staff, was bestowed the Dragons’ ‘Immortals Trophy’ for his services to the Club.

Winger Jason Nightingale was the recipient of the ‘Dragons Community Achievement Award’ for his generous work in the community promoting the Club’s eight Community Pillars- Charity, Cultural, Education, Environment, Grassroots, Health, Mentoring and Women & Girls.

Prop Trent Merrin, as voted by the Club’s Coaching Staff, was awarded the ‘Geoff Selby Memorial Coach’s Award’ which pays tribute to hardworking and highly respected former Dragons player Geoff Selby, who was tragically killed in a car accident in 1989.

Prop Dan Hunt was rewarded for his tertiary efforts away from the field by being awarded the ‘Mark Coyne Trophy’ for career development.

The Australia international is currently studying his Bachelors of Physical Education and part of the Club’s Graduates of league program run in conjunction with the University of Wollongong, NRL and RLPA.

Fellow Gradate of League member and current National Youth Competition team centre Charly Runciman was named the ‘Paul McGregor NYC Player of the Year’.
