Merrin Over The Blue Moon

St George Illawarra Dragons prop Trent Merrin is admittedly ‘over the moon’ after being named into the New South Wales Blues Origin squad on Sunday.
The Shellharbour junior, alongside Dragons teammate Ben Creagh, have both been named into the 17-man squad to be coached by Ricky Stuart.
Merrin, 22, was named into the NSW Country Origin squad earlier in the season and is proud to have been selected for his third State of Origin fixture.
“I am simply over the moon at the moment,” said Merrin.
“It was a bit nerve wracking waiting to see if I got the call-up as it’s a tough squad to make.
“A lot of players have been playing some strong football which I’m sure made Ricky’s job so difficult to make.
“I’m fortunate to have Ben Creagh amongst the mix of things with me as ‘big ginge’ is one of those blokes I look up to on the team.”
The NSW Blues will play the Queensland Maroons in the first State of Origin fixture at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne on May 23.
