The St George Illawarra Dragons will launch a game-wide first this weekend with an innovative “Keep The Ball” initiative in place at the fixture against the Penrith Panthers at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Saturday.
Red V Members and supporters alike attending the match will have the opportunity to take home any match ball that they may be lucky enough to catch if kicked over the fence during the NRL encounter.
The initiative is a trial that is in line with the Dragons ongoing commitment to adding value to the game day live experience and is supported by the NRL and ball manufacture Steeden, who will supply as many as 50 match balls for this Dragons home fixture.
"This is an innovative way to create additional value for Red V Members and supporters who attend our home games and it is also a great way to get more footballs out into the community and into the hands of people with a passion for Rugby League," said Dragons Chief Operating Officer Michael McDonald.
"The Dragons are always looking for ways to improve our live game day experience and create a point of difference not available to those watching at home.
"Being able to take home a match ball that Jamie Soward kicks over the fence is an exciting prospect for members and fans alike”.
"We’ve been working closely with the NRL and Steeden on the opportunity to trial this concept in the NRL and are very appreciate of the support we have received.
"It is a concept that certainly works well at Major League Baseball games in the United States and I’m sure has the potential to be just as popular with Rugby League in Australia."
