Junior Rep Trials Commence

The St George Illawarra Dragons conducted trials for its four Junior Representative Rugby League teams when the Illawarra Steelers took on the St George Dragons last Saturday, 12 January, at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.
The day’s procedings commenced with the Adam Bezzina/Michael Stone coached Steelers Harold Matthews Cup team opposed to the Graeme Wynn St George team. Whilst no official scores were kept throughout the day, both teams were very competitive with little between the two teams early in the trial. However as the game wore on the Steelers Juniors proved to be a little too strong for their Dragons counterparts, though both coaches saw promising signs to build on.

The much publicised SG Ball clash again was a closely fought affair, with the Dean Young coached Steelers Juniors proving to be a little stronger than the Ben Hornby coached Saints on the day.

Dragons Junior Rep manager Neil Lovett commented “It’s always good to get that first trial under your belt. The players appreciate the opportunity to put their hard-earned off-season practice into action, the coaches can determine where their players are at, and the staff can fine tune their roles to ensure they are able to provide the best possible care for our future Dragons NRL players. I’m sure Saturday’s trials enabled all this, and more”.
Trials continue on Saturday 19 January when St George play North Sydney at TG Milner Field, Marsfield, at 9.00am and 10.30am, and the Illawarra Steelers take on the Sydney Roosters at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah, in the same time slots.
