The St George Illawarra Dragons were on hand to help teachers from across the Illawarra and South Coast the opportunity to learn how to coach rugby league on Tuesday.
The Dragons, in conjunction with the DEC School Sport Unit and the NRL, helped over 30 enthusiastic primary and secondary teachers the chance to learn a new range of skills to for them to take back to the classroom.
Throughout the day, teachers listened and experienced drills under the tutelage of Dragons Community and NRL Game Development Staff as well as attending the Dragons NRL video room with Club High Performance Coach Ben Haran.
“It was great to see so many teachers putting their hand up to take teams at their school,” said Dragons Community Officer Adam Bezzina.
“Without the help of these teachers, students would otherwise miss the opportunity at trying their hand at rugby league.
“In an added bonus for the teachers they also receive Professional Learning credit points which all new scheme teachers must accrue each year and what better way to accrue points than gaining a rugby league coaching certificate and taking students to a gala day.”
