De Belin: Feeling Fit & Fighting

St George Illawarra Dragons lock Jack de Belin is feeling fighting fit as he nears the completion of the first stage of pre-season training.
The Red-and-Whites have presently been undergoing a rigorous fitness and conditioning program which commenced in early November with their sights firmly set on 2013.
The entire 35-man full-time first-grade train-on squad will have a short respite during the holiday period before commencing stage two of pre-season, with a focus on strength and ball skills, in January.
De Belin, who featured 19 times for the Dragons last season, is in the midst of his second pre-season program and admits his body is adapting to what is required this time around compared to 12-months prior having just graduated from the National Youth Competition.
“It’s been very tough so far but I know it’ll be rewarding in the long run,” said de Belin.
“I feel refreshed and reenergised so far from it so I know it’s in my best interests as well as everyone else.
“I feel much better this year around compared to last year as back then I’d put on a bit of weight which I needed to lose.
“I don’t think I was able to handle it as much then so early in my career but I’ve dropped a few kilograms and maintaining the weight which I feel better about.
“I was happy to get as many games as I did last season and felt I was coming home strong towards the end of last season which was a positive.”
The Cootamundra junior, who made his debut during the 2011 campaign against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in round 16, is also pleased with the promotion of so many of his former NYC teammates to the pre-season train-on squad.
“A lot of the Under 20’s players I’ve played alongside before so it’s good to see a new wave coming through that I’m close to,” said de Belin.
“Hopefully they can maintain their fitness and possibly get a game under their belt in their first season like I did in my first year.”
