Critical Trials For Junior Rep Players
Thursday 17 January 2013 12:29 PM
This weekend’s trials will prove critical for many of the players involved with the Dragons Junior Representative train-on squads.
All four squads currently hold approximately 30 players, all hopeful of securing a position in the final squads to represent the Dragons in the NSWRL Harold Matthews (U16’s) and SG Ball (U18’s) teams in 2013.
The St George squads play North Sydney Bears on Saturday 19 January at TG Milner Field, Marsfield, at 9.00am and 10.30am, and following these trials both squads will be reduced to approximately 22 players. St George Harold Matthews Cup Coach Graeme Wynn said today “These trials will be final opportunity for players to show the selectors their best attributes as a Rugby League player. Each one has gone through a rigorous pre- and post- Christmas training program, and all were assessed throughout this period as well as in last week’s trials. It will be a difficult task to cull to our final squads, and I and the other coaches wish all players the best of luck on Saturday”.

Illawarra’s Junior Representative teams will be opposed to their Sydney Roosters counterparts, also on Saturday 19 January, at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah, at 9.00am and 10.30am. Steelers Harold Matthews Cup Co-Coach Adam Bezzina echoed the St George sentiments when he said “We’ve had a great bunch of kids, all talented, trialing with us in 2013. It will be very difficult to cut some of these players, many of whom would have made final squads in any other year. There’s not much between any of the players, and I know Dean Young (Illawarra Steelers SG Ball Coach), and my Co-Coach Michael Stone and I will have some very tough decisions to make on Saturday night”.
