Shellharbour is located at the southern end of the Illawarra and has the fastest growing population in country NSW. Our club has been in existence for 107 years playing Rugby Union before switching to League in 1920.

Season 2007 saw the most significant change in the clubs 107 year history with the entry of the “Marlins” in NSWRL Jim Beam Cup, JBC is a high profile state wide semi professional competition which is one level under the NRL and commands high media exposure.

Season 2008 has been an extremely successful year for the Shellharbour Club, with the Marlins coming of age in only their second year in existence. The memorable 9-game winning streak and the three game guest stint of the effervescent Wendell Sailor really put the Marlins brand out there, to make the finals and finish fourth in such a quality competition was first class.

2009 will see Sheharbour again take a giant leap forward in the promotion of Rugby League in the Illawarra and South Coast with the club moving our Shark teams into the highly competitive Illawarra Carlton League and the “Marlins” being re-named the “Shellharbour City Dragons” & stepping up to the NSW Cup competition. This will strengthen the ties with St George Illawarra Dragons and effectively make this team their second side.
