Dragons Community Grassroots Rugby League programs revolve around support of Junior Rugby League Clubs and schools within our region.
Junior Rugby League
The Dragons work with the local rugby league clubs to increase junior player and qualified volunteer numbers.
The Dragons also promote age-appropriate modified versions of the game to parents and to establish direct links to the Dragons.

The St George Illawarra nursery stretches for Kogarah in the north all the way down to Batemans Bay on the South Coast of NSW.
The Dragons Junior League Clubs comprise of three areas, St George, Illawarra and Group 7 with a total of 38 Junior Clubs competing within these areas.
The St George Illawarra Dragons NRL squad, has consistently comprised of a high percentage of local juniors.

Junior Rugby League
The Dragons work with the 37 rugby league clubs in our region to increase junior player and qualified volunteer numbers; to promote age-appropriate modified versions of the game to parents and to establish direct links to the Dragons.
This includes our very successful ‘Blitz and Community Carnival’ events.
St George Bank Challenge
The St George Bank Challenge is in its fifth year, illustrating the unique partnership between St George Bank and the St George Illawarra Dragons.
It involves over 500 local juniors across the 48 U10 teams, offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for the kids, including playing before and at half-time of all Dragons home games as well as provide the teams with their own kitbags.
NRL Backyard League
NRL Backyard League was a new program in 2010 and continues to be rolled out by NRL with the assistance of Dragons Community in schools.
A 2012 addition to the program was the ‘K-2 Early Childhood program’ focusing on infants classes across our region.
School Programs and Holiday Clinics
The Dragons in conjunction with the NRL, across our three regions, conduct skills clinics, gala days and coaching clinics.
Our holiday clinics are conducted in all three regions in February, April and July.
