THORBY EXCITED ABOUT CHARITY SHIELD
25/02/2010 4:04:00 PM

St George Illawarra front-rower Ricky Thorby will be hoping to continue his run of first grade appearances when the Dragons take on the Rabbitohs in the Charity Shield at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

Thorby performed strongly in the Dragons’ last two pre-season matches including scoring a rare try against Parramatta in Perth.

With front-row positions up for grabs following the departure of Justin Poore to the Eels, Thorby will be keen to cement his spot in a strong Dragons squad after an intense pre-season.

“It’s been a big pre-season, but it’s been a good one with all the effort the boys have put in and hopefully it’s going to pay off for us and we’re just hoping for a good start to the year.”

Thorby is well aware of the added importance of Saturday’s clash to the Dragons pre-season preparations and he is hopeful his team can continue to show improvement in the lead up to the 2010 NRL season.
